Finally got around to opening up my old PS4 over the weekend. It’s been running hot and loud for a while, and I figured it was time. Did a full cleanup, changed the thermal paste, and even replaced a capacitor in the power supply.
Living in Singapore, humidity really does a number on electronics. Inside was full of dust, and I spotted some rust on the screws and heatsink. The fan was choking, and the old thermal paste had completely dried up.
After:
- Fan noise dropped a lot
- System feels way more stable
- No more random crashes
- Just runs cooler overall
Reapplying thermal paste made a big difference. Now that heat is transferred properly, the fan doesn’t need to spin like crazy anymore.
Feels good to give it a second life instead of buying a new one. If you haven’t cleaned yours in years, especially in humid places, it’s definitely worth doing.
